ANNOUNCEMENTS
Rural Nevada Development Corporation
Charles Schwab Bank has announced a grant award of $20,000 to Rural Nevada Development Corporation (RNDC).  Proceeds of the
award will be used by the non-profit, headquartered in Ely, to assist in the corporate expansion of its many programs.

RNDC is a private non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides a variety of small business loan programs, housing programs for low
income persons, and economic development related services that include small business counseling.  The service area for RNDC
includes all of the rural portions of Nevada.

"These funds will be utilized by our organization to expand the capacity of RNDC to meet the ever growing demand for services rural wide.
A demand for products and services that we have been struggling to provide since 1992 when the organization was created", says Ferrel
Hansen, Chief Executive Officer for RNDC.  "We are grateful to Charles Schwab for their contribution to our effort and thank them for their
commitment to the residents of rural Nevada".
The Nevada District office of the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has selected its small business award honorees for
2009.

Mary Kerner has been named the Nevada SBA Financial Services Champion of the Year, as well as the SBA Region 9 Financial
Services Champion of the Year. Region 9 includes Hawaii, California, Nevada, Arizona, Guam and the South Pacific Islands. She is
being considered, along with the nine other regional winners, for the national award.

Kerner is the Lending Administrator for the Rural Nevada Development Corporation in Ely. Her lending service area encompasses
all of Rural Nevada, including Rural Clark and Rural Washoe counties. She is responsible for effectively creating and administering
a $7 million loan portfolio and maintaining a less than one-percent default rate. That alone would be worthy of recognition. However,
she has also consistently worked to insure RNDC clients receive the needed business acumen, technical assistance and
advocacy required to achieve and maintain success.

The nominees are judged by an independent panel of small business leaders on a variety of criteria, including response to
adversity, evidence of contributions to community-oriented projects, and small business encouragement.

“This has been a very challenging economy for small companies,” said John Scott, SBA Nevada District Director. “All of our award
recipients this year display a ‘can-do' spirit when it comes to business staying power, and all have the ability to see beyond the
challenges to develop solutions,” added Scott.

Her achievements were recognized on the state level at the Annual Small Business Awards Luncheon on May 7 in Las Vegas, and
regionally in Washington, D.C, during Small Business Week May 17th - 20th.
